Non-Executive Directors appointed to NCEO Management Board

NCEO is delighted to announce, for the first time in its history, it has appointed two non-executive directors (NEDs) to the NCEO Management Board, Dr Mary Black and Cathrine Armour.

 

Dr Mary Black

Dr Mary Black, NCEO Non-Executive Director.

 

Mary Black is a public health doctor with great experience in such directorships, including currently serving as a NED at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science. Recently, she has also been supporting Scottish government vaccination programmes. Mary’s career has included clinical and public health work in Ireland and the UK, over ten years with WHO and UNICEF in Balkan countries and international consulting in health improvement, health services, social care and data systems.

 

Cathrine Armour

Cathrine Armour, NCEO Non-Executive Director.

 

Cathrine Armour is a seasoned leader of strategic, policy-centric organisations – leveraging science and technology to achieve cross-cutting innovation and research. As Chief Customer Officer at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO), Cathrine leads the global commercial business – annual revenues in excess of £160m – delivering marine data solutions that support safe, secure and thriving oceans. Having founded her career in geospatial data and technology, she is an advocate for open data and committed to the value of data in answering mission critical questions in global policy development and decision-making.

Prior to joining the UKHO, Cathrine led innovative projects that have not only utilised geospatial data to generate economic growth, but also create significant positive change. This includes establishing the South West Centre of Excellence for Satellite Applications as inaugural Director, founding Ordnance Survey’s award winning Geovation Accelerator and leading the international Eye on Earth programme for global cooperation in the use and access of environmental data for sustainable development.

In 2016, she was short-listed for the WISE International Award for Open Source, sponsored by Bloomberg, for her work.

Cathrine holds a BSc Environmental Studies (GIS & Spatial Analysis) and post-graduate certificates across business, technology, sustainability and impact. She is currently undertaking research on the nexus of purposeful leadership, artificial intelligence and sustainable economics – optimising decision-intelligence to achieve harmony of people and planet.
