NCEO Welcomes Approval from EUMETSAT Council for new NCEO-EUMETSAT Earth Observation Collaboration Agreement

The National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) is delighted to share the news that EUMETSAT Council has approved a new international cooperation agreement between NCEO and EUMETSAT, Europe’s meteorological satellite agency. This partnership strengthens our shared commitment to advancing Earth observation science and delivering actionable insights for climate resilience, environmental monitoring, and societal benefit.

This approval from EUMETSAT member states recognises the value that NCEO can bring to international, UK-invested satellite programmes for Earth Observation. Today, weather forecasting, early warning of hazards, and understanding of long-term change are essential to societal resilience and productivity. Environmental forecasting is essential to improve people’s lives and property from finance to health.”

Earth Observation is critical for understanding and responding to global challenges such as climate change, extreme weather, and ecosystem health. By combining NCEO’s world-leading research expertise with EUMETSAT’s operational satellite capabilities, this agreement ensures that scientific innovation translates into real-world impact.
