About Our Governance

The National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) is a UK research centre funded by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). We deliver world-leading research in Earth observation, supporting national and international efforts to understand and respond to environmental change.
Our Role
NCEO works in partnership with universities, research institutes, government agencies, and industry to provide scientific insight and data that inform policy, innovation, and public understanding. Our mission is to advance the use of satellite and ground-based Earth observation to monitor and model the Earth system, contributing to climate resilience, environmental stewardship, and sustainable development.

Our Management
NCEO is overseen by a Management Team including responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the centre. This team ensures the effective delivery of our research programmes, partnerships, and outreach activities. The Management Team works under the leadership of the NCEO Director and collaborates closely with UKRI and other stakeholders.
Our Board
The NCEO Advisory Board provides independent oversight and strategic guidance. It supports the Management Team in aligning NCEO’s work with national priorities and global challenges. The Board includes representatives from academia, government, and industry, offering diverse perspectives to help shape NCEO’s long-term vision and impact.
