Professor John Remedios

Professor John Remedios is the Executive Director of the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) and a Professor in Earth Observational Science at the University of Leicester. He is a Physicist with collaborations across Chemistry, Geography and Biology.

John has nearly 40 years experience is in satellite systems for observing the Earth: climate, land and ocean temperatures, atmospheric gases, land-atmosphere coupling, EO data algorithms. He is Chair of the TRUTHS Mission Advisory Group and PI of the ATSR series of instruments. He is an adviser to government (UK Space Agency, DSIT and Defra), including advisory committees (e.g. UKSA’s EOAC), Space4Climate, the UK international GEO/CEOS office and he has supported  the Space Partnership; these include collaborations with industry.

He is currently providing oversight roles for the UK EO Climate Information Service, the EO Data Hub and a UK net-zero verification project. He is a member of the UKRI Space Co-ordination Group and the UKRI Infrastructure Advisory Committee. John recently served as a member of the science review panel for ESA’s Future EO programme.
