Research matters: NCEO welcomes the launch of National Research Organisations (NRO) UK as a member organisation

The National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) is proud to welcome the launch of the National Research Organisations (NRO) Group, a new alliance of 35 leading UK research agencies and institutes dedicated to advancing science for the benefit of people, communities, the economy, and national priorities.
The NRO Group has been established to provide a unified and authoritative voice for national research organisations, ensuring science-based insight informs decisions and connects major national priorities. By addressing fragmentation across the UK research landscape, the NRO Group will unlock the full potential of these organisations through clearer governance, strategic alignment, and improved visibility of their unique capabilities.
Ensuring a long-term strategic research capability has never been more important for UK vitality, health and prosperity. The launch of the NRO provides a voice for long-term research capability in the UK. The NCEO is pleased to be a partner in the NRO recognising the value of strategic research in Earth Observation and its exploitation for discovery and decadal studies of planetary health and productivity. The NRO will provide a conduit for national research institutes, like NCEO, to work directly with UK government in informing the evidence base for policy and for ensuring the UK has research capability to respond to its needs and priorities.

For NCEO, this partnership strengthens our mission to provide cutting-edge Earth Observation science that informs policy and addresses global challenges.
Research and Development is essential to building a better Britain. From new treatments for cancer, to breakthroughs in clean energy or developing the computers of the future, the path to a stronger economy and society will be dependent on science and innovation.”
