Applications Now Open: Access Cutting-Edge Spectroscopic Equipment for Your Research

The NERC Field Spectroscopy Facility (FSF) is now accepting applications for its Summer 2025 loan period, open until 2 June 2025. Researchers supported by NERC and the wider UKRI community are invited to apply for free access to the facility’s suite of high-resolution, portable spectroscopic instruments—along with a range of expert support services—from July 2025 to May 2026.
Successful applicants will benefit from:
- Calibrated spectroscopic instruments tailored for field use
- Access to FSF’s accredited calibration laboratory
- One-to-one training and technical support
- No cost to your project
The FSF’s instrument catalogue spans the full range of NERC science themes and includes systems for underwater, ground-based, and UAV-mounted deployments. You can explore the full range of available equipment here: https://fsf.nerc.ac.uk/instruments/
New for 2025–26:
- A dual field-of-view full-range spectrometer (350–2500 nm) for simultaneous radiance and irradiance measurements – ideal for ground-truthing remote sensing data.
- A portable integrating sphere attachment, enabling field-based transmission and reflectance measurements.
- A new UAV-mounted LiDAR system.
- A lightweight hyperspectral UAV imager (400–1000 nm) offering high-resolution data capture.
Whether you’re measuring canopy reflectance, aquatic environments, or surface properties from the air, FSF’s instrumentation can help elevate your research.
