STEM Ambassadors
NCEO encourages researchers to share their work with their local community. They may lead or contribute to events run by their university or research institute, support programmes at a nearby or Science or Discovery Centre, or visit a school or youth group.
On such visits, NCEO staff may:
- talk about a career in research individually or as part of a panel
- act as a mock interviewer for students applying to university
- present an assembly about looking after the Earth
- run a class activity linking EO and the curriculum
- help with clubs in STEM subjects, including ICT/coding, and geography
- take part in activities for a science or space day or week
- provide training for teachers who want to use specialist software or who would like more background knowledge before using one of our resources.
The NCEO Outreach team encourages researchers to become STEM Ambassadors. This programme gives teachers and youth-group leaders access to volunteers who can provide real-world contexts to help develop young people’s knowledge and skills. It also offers training and support for the volunteers so they can work confidently with students across the age range.
