This free, self-paced course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of data assimilation without assuming a background in mathematical concepts or any specialist subject knowledge.

It will be particularly useful to users of data assimilation products (e.g. reanalyses) or those who are interested in exploring the possibilities of data assimilation for new applications.

The course, led by NCEO’s Sarah Dance, Professor of Data Assimilation at the University of Reading, is open for participation at any time, however, facilitators will be available to support course participants between November 7th and 28th, 2022.

The course content covers basic concepts, how it works and uses and applications and includes interactive online lessons, videos and discussions.
