NASA has selected Dr Hartmut Boesch of the Space Research Centre at University of Leicester and Professor Paul Palmer of the School of GeoSciences from University of Edinburgh for the NASA OCO-2 Science Team. The OCO-2 science team consists of 24 members with only 4 members from outside North America, 1 from France and 1 from Germany and 2 from the UK, which reflects the strong expertise of UK groups in the area of greenhouse gas remote sensing. Hartmut Boesch and Paul Palmer will support the OCO-2 mission specifically in the areas of retrieval algorithm development and inverse modeling.
“I am confident that we can make important contributions to the success of OCO-2 which will strongly benefit Earth Observation science in the UK†said Hartmut Boesch, RCUK Research Fellow in Earth Observation Science, “Funding from NCEO has been instrumental in securing this science team membershipâ€
